My soul waits

Updated: Apr 25, 2019

For God alone my soul waits in silence and quietly submits to Him, for my hope is from Him.

He only is my rock and my salvation; my fortress and my defense, I will not be shaken or discouraged.

—Psalm 62:5–6 AMP

Waiting. We have all experienced times when we wait on God’s whisper of His next move in our lives. I have to confess that these waiting times are not my favorites. I would much prefer to see skywriting with a word from heaven or I’d even settle for a subtle sign from above. But sometimes, there’s only silence.

Herons are the poster children for quietly waiting in silence. For several years, we lived on the edge of a lake in Michigan. I could sit on the deck for hours and watch the wildlife. Herons fascinated me the most—how they can stand motionless for the longest time, assessing their habitat, alertly waiting and searching for sustenance. At the same time, they trust and hope that they will be fed. Lesson learned.

A new art business and blog seem, at times, a bit like that heron’s stillness. I wait in silence, submit to our Creator by doing the things I believe He is leading me to do, and hope in Him. I’m so thankful that God is my rock, my salvation, my fortress, and my defense, and I hope the same is true for you. My prayer today is that we will not be shaken or discouraged. Praise His name!
